Walking dogs: Please be aware that dog poo is a major pollution source because most of it is washed to our local beaches through stormwater drains. Enjoy your walks, be a responsible dog owner and enjoy a clean, healthy environment. When walking in public areas, dogs are to be under effective control at all times. Effective control means that the dog must be under control by either being on a lead or it must respond to verbal commands. During daylight savings times, any dog on the beach must be on a lead between the hours of 10am and 8pm. When walking a dog in a public place, always carry a plastic bag to collect any droppings. Biodegradable dog tidy bags are available from Council Offices and in various locations throughout the City of Holdfast Bay. Failing to carry an instrument to pick up your dog’s droppings in a public place may result in a $187.50 fine under Councils by-law (No. 41). www.holdfast.sa.gov.au
